My students have learned to be independent writers that strive for inserting “rich vocabulary” in their assignments. They struggle with the set that I have because they are the Webster’s Children Addition and often do not have the words they are searching for. Frustration leads to settling for a word that fits instead of words that enrich. Another obstacle they face is the condition in which the dictionaries have been kept by previous students. I preach to the students that resources should be considered precious. The students try to take care of all the supplies in my room but I can not fault them when the covers come off and the old tattered pages rip. I want my students to know that their education is important to me and that they deserve up to date new materials.
