I teach 8th grade history and ASB to middle schoolers in California. My students come from very diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Approximately 65% are English language learners and socioeconomically disadvantaged. Cultural and language barriers make it very difficult for many of my students to grasp the difficult topics in history that I am required to teach them. In addition, many of my students do not have access to technology in their homes, and the only time they use technology is at school. By having Chromebooks for them to utilize in class, my students will be more motivated to learn, and they will be learning valuable technological skills that will prepare them for a 21st center marketplace, skills they might not otherwise receive. Their knowledge of U.S. History will greatly increase because they will be more engaged in the learning process, and as a result, their self-confidence will soar!
