I have a wonderful group of scholars. They are a kind and caring group of academically diverse children. The students in my classroom have needs from kindergarten level to fifth grade. Over 1/3 of my third graders receive special education services. My school is in an area of high poverty. In the county alone, we have fifteen prisons. Many of the students are impacted by one or both of these factors. Over 50 percent of our pupils qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite the struggles, our school is a friendly, family oriented center. It is a generational school where grandparents, parents, and children have all attended. We have strong traditions like ice cream socials, hot dog dinners, and family lunches.
