Imagine you are five years old, you've never been to school before, and above everything else, you don't know a word of English. That feeling you have in your gut is the exact feeling that all of my students felt on the first day of school. I teach 15 determined, loving, and extraordinary ESL (English as a Second Language) students in our self-contained classroom. I'm responsible for 21 ESL students total. Each and every one of these families came to the United States to acquire the education that they deserve. Seeing their desire and eagerness for knowledge makes me the happiest teacher in the world. We are a Title I school so our students are very low income. A lot of my students don't even have crayons to use at home, which is very discouraging. Yet when they come to school, they enter our classroom with big hugs and huge smiles on their faces.
