I teach in a self-contained special education Pre-K classroom, where each of my students comes from a unique home life and upbringing. Every single one of them holds a special place in my heart. In my classroom, I work with a wide range of abilities—some students are just beginning to communicate their needs, while others are making big strides toward independence—but what truly sets my students apart is their determination and desire to learn in their own way. They arrive with smiles and, more importantly, they leave with them too. It wasn’t always this way—school is a brand-new and sometimes overwhelming experience for many of them. New routines, new expectations, and new environments can be challenging. But with consistency, patience, and support, they have grown to feel safe, confident, and excited about learning. I strive to give each student the strong, individualized foundation they deserve.
