In late October I was asked if I would come teach a new class that was being created by an overflow of students in the other five first grade classrooms. I was given an empty room with nothing, honestly nothing! I had to scratch up oddball tables and chairs. There were no computers. My students do not have access to any technology without going to the computer lab. That is almost impossible to do since the lab stays booked most days. If we had iPads in the classroom students could use them for so many things. They offer diverse teaching methods, unending resources, reinforcement of learning, etc. Everyone knows that technology helps develop student's higher order thinking skills, promote creativity, and facilitate academic learning. Without access to technology students are at a disadvantage. My goal is to have at least ten iPads. I understand that is a lot of money. So for now I am asking for just one. By having at least one iPad students can take turns benefiting from it.
