These girls come from all different groups within the school. Softball keeps them close together and gives them a sense of family. Some of these girls came to school without gloves but wanted to be part of something they could believe in. Many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. For many of our games, the girls need to take mass transit to far out parts of the city. Girl's softball has not been a high priority and these girls can feel it. Their school uniforms do not even have the name of their school on them. We run out of ice packs during the season. Last year, the girls went an entire season, 15 girls with only one coach.
