Striving for a better future can be attained through financial literacy and financial freedom. As part of our school mission and goals, our students are working rigorously learning about economic theory and financial literacy. Students work collaboratively on project based learning that is focused on real world experiences. Our students are composed of immigrants from Latin America who are in search of the "American dream". They work twice as hard, not only to learn how to navigate a new educational system, but a new language and content areas. They have limited access to technology at home, but that doesn't deter from their strive for success. At least 3-4 times a week, our students will come in during their lunch time or stay after school to meet their educational needs. As a school, we want to actively encourage our students to meet the educational demands that they will be competing with for the remainder of their secondary education and beyond. This is why we have placed such a high importance on the digital classroom, because that is the future of this generation and we only seek to prepare our students for the future. This school year, we enrolled our students in a financial literacy program and web based competition with other students across the United States. Our students would need steady access to computers to actively and effectively compete in this web based competition for the Spring semester. Chromebooks or netbooks are a solution for our students. This will allow them to effectively engage in a digital classroom and web based competition more effectively through this school year and future years as well.
