I currently teach in a first grade classroom. As part of our school day there is a fifty minute block that is spent doing interventions with students. This intervention block is used to bring my first grade students language arts skills up to grade level. My classroom includes special needs students as well as second language learners. Both of these groups would greatly benefit from hands on activities targeted at the skills that they need to improve upon. Our school is located in a low income area where many of the families are struggling to pay the necessary bills to survive.
