Help my students get books about and written by women and men of color, queer folx, and under-represented groups. They will be using these books in book clubs and literature circles to catalyze discussions about social justice. Book clubs and literature circles allow students to discuss and explore literature with agency. With the diverse group of students I have in the classroom, the diverse books I am asking for will allow students to choose books that they identify with--gay, trans, black, and Hispanic characters--and read about experiences that they connect with and relate to. These books give students an opportunity to explore literature through the eyes of diverse characters and writers, as they often only have access to white, cis, hetero characters and writers in Young Adult fiction.
