Our classroom consists of 6 students (1 female and 5 males) on the autism spectrum. They are currently in a self contained classroom and meet with typical peers for recess, lunch, and resources. The structured learning environment classroom is a diploma bound program that has a goal for the students to eventually be mainstreamed into a regular educational classroom. They are bright, caring, and love to learn. Our school is eager to teach kids not only academics, but also about caring for others. Our students may struggle in the area of language due to their disability, but they are very compassionate when it comes to each other in their classroom. They like to help one another when we are completing academic tasks as well as during social skills. They are working on sharing, and communicating their needs so that others are aware of what they need or how they may be feeling.
