Science has abstract concepts that are hard to teach. Knex allows students to model and manipulate these concepts and make it a fun and engaging experience. Using the K'nex building sets, I want to provide students to explore almost any science concept while using their creativity and imagination. I bought these sets out of my own pocket for my special education students years ago- but the impact was far more reaching, as test scores and completion rates increased upwards of 10%! Through the construction of molecular models, sustainable energy systems, or Newton's laws of force and motion, I want my students to be able to take ownership of what they are learning to make it a valuable and worthwhile experience. It is through these experiences and valuing each other's creativity that we build our community and learn to value each other's diversity.
