Our school is in one of the highest poverty areas in the city, and also one of the highest crime areas, but you wouldn't know it when you are in my room. Although the students in my classroom have a variety of needs, they are some of the most hard working kiddos I have ever worked with. Some have severe needs, and some are mild, but the interventions that we use with them are as diverse as the students themselves. I am amazed and blessed, every day, to be able to be a part of their lives, and to be a small part of the educational growth. I have seen many successes in my classroom, that to some may seem small, but to my kiddos are sometimes like climbing Mt. Everest. Like AR, for instance, who came to class as an 11 yr old, with an extremely low reading level (1st grade), and a moderate developmental delay and a terrible attitude. After a year in my classroom, and lots of hard work, he was able to independently read grade level text and identify most of his site words.
