I teach/coach Debate at a suburban high school. There is a great variety of students from different cultures and socioeconomic levels. Debate attracts high achieving students. Several of them are working towards improving their economic situations. They choose debate not only for the skills, but also for the scholarship opportunities. There are many who are the first in their families to apply to college. Their families cannot afford to provide them with a laptop.
