I teach students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Along with my general ed. classes, I see three self-contained autistic classes twice a week: kindergarten-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th. In the past, these students did not follow a physical education plan that challenged their motor skills or helped reach their individual learning goals. Many of the things done in my general education classes can be modified without a change of equipment; however, with bowling, students with special needs will have more success with lighter training bowling balls and easy-to-grip foam covered (color coded) bowling pins. Bowling is a life-time activity that I can introduce where they are not only being physically active, but they can also be responsible for basic math and writing skills.
