For over a decade, my school has fought to improve both graduation and college acceptance rates in our high needs district. Successfully graduating nearly every senior with a college acceptance letter, my school is now trying to tackle a new problem that has surfaced; a large percentage of students who are dropping out of college. The students at my school dream big. I truly believe that with the right facilities and equipment, I can push them to reach these dreams. Having taught for two years in a college environment that mainly serviced high-needs students, I have a strong understanding of what science and math skill sets students are missing. I believe that if I can teach those skill sets prior to college, I can eliminate much of the disadvantages our students have going into higher education. I firmly believe that meeting the demands of higher education is an essential piece of closing the achievement gap..
