My theater students experience life through extreme poverty. Struggling to get basic life needs met with a lack of resources, these young people are held back from moving outside of their own hard realities and into the world of potential. With 85% of the school population on free or reduced lunch, opportunities are limited. My theater classroom can supply them with new ways of self-exploration. Investigating life through theater and film gives students permission to gain new perspectives on not only who they are as individuals but also how they fit in the world.
