"Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives." Nature and exploring it is what most children do every day. My students live in a high crime area where this is a luxury that many cannot afford to participate in. However, our school is located on several acres of tree lined fields in the middle of a big city. They have a school garden and eagerly get their hands into the soil. They don't often see animals though and are eager to hatch them. Their faces light up when they are outside learning. They love to learn and are excited when they are able to see and experience it first hand. They love listening to books and trying their hand at reading them alone.
