I teach 30 motivated, creative kids who love computers and coding.
Our elementary school sits in a small pocket of Los Angeles County called the “South Bay” with a diverse socio-economic and ethnic population. The school maintains high testing scores and is committed to providing a solid education but to also prepare children to be citizens capable of engaging the world. The solid educational foundation comes from maintaining a high Academic Performance Index (API) score of 908 (2014) and embracing our diverse ethnic and economic population.
The school is a Title I school, meaning over 51% of the school is designated as low income by the LAUSD standards. The challenges of our diverse population is that due to our “lower” percentage of low income students compared to other Title I schools we are received the least amount of funding to provide the needed services.
The ethnic diversity is about 50% Latino, 20% African American and 21% Asian and Pacific Islander and 8% White.
