The majority of my students would be considered middle classes, with extremes at either end. The come from all types of backgrounds from large family sizes to small and multiple adult support in the home to only one. I have an average of 36 kids in a class with 40 desks in my classroom. I've help develop a mentor program in my school where students of previous years come back the next year and help struggling students be successful. The program provides great opportunities for the mentors and those they work with. It has developed an atmosphere and environment where students are helping each others. This help is paid forward as those students that received help and now understand proceed to help others that need it. The students have the opportunities to be the teacher and the teacher has the opportunity to learn from the students. One of my greatest joys is watching my mentors and other students teaching a concepts and helping those around them understand and connect.
