I know asking for a MacBook seems ridiculous. I have, for several years, been using video projects for my students' final test grade for each chapter. The students are separated into groups and are required to video themselves in scenes in which they apply the Spanish they just learned (as well as Spanish from previous chapters) to create a piece of a larger "movie". I outline the beginning, middle, and end of the movie as a guideline for what it must contain. The students do the rest. They write, direct, act in, and film their own scenes. When they are finished the students send their filmed scenes to me. I then edit every movie for each class. For years I have been using my iPhone. This process can take days of work. However, the end results of these projects are priceless. My students leave middle school with several movies of themselves and their friends speaking Spanish that they can look back on for years to come.
This MacBook will benefit the students in my classes as well as the entire student body. I have taken on the task of editing a full-length movie every year for Black History Month. Every grade level in our pre-K through 8 school contributes a short film that celebrates the accomplishments of black people throughout history. Those films are then sent to me and I edit them into a full-length movie that is screened for our entire student body. With this MacBook I can teach my students in our A\V Club how to edit these movies. This project will give my students an in-depth look into the workings of the film industry and the real-life experience of a job that may interest them in the future. Help me give them these experiences.
