I teach at an urban Title One school in South Carolina. We have a high poverty rating, and a highly transient population. Our school has over a 80% rate of free and reduced lunch. At home, my students report few if any books to read. The ability to pick up a book at school may be their only opportunity to become comfortable with the reading process and enjoy learning as a result.
