I work in a District 75 school, so it is a Special Education based school. My students with autism range from highly functional students to very low or nonverbal. They make up about 75% of the school. The other percentage of our students are Emotionally Disturbed; they may come from foster homes, or low income homes, and some are taken care of by other family members. Many of them are angry, but we try to make them feel special, and gain their trust by upholding a respectful bond. The school functions as a home. All the teachers and para professionals work together to create a caring environment.
