Every student has a right to feel safe at school. As teachers we know that in order for students to learn, they need to not only be in a safe environment but to feel safe. In this day and age of gun violence in schools, it a major concern in schools across the nation. Our school is over 100 years old and is seriously lacking in the upgrades that many new schools are fortunate to be built with. Although we are a locked campus, the main entrance can be accessed by anyone without the office staff's knowledge. Additionally, while outside the PA system cannot be heard, which causes a break in information being obtained swiftly. My students need Ansoko Long Range Walkie Talkie to feel safe when they are at school. Access to walkie talkies for the entire staff would ensure that pertinent information would be forthcoming quickly and efficiently. Presently, our school has only 3 walkie talkies for a staff of thirty-two. In case of an emergency, information would not be able to get to all the faculty and staff as it should to make sure that liabilities were kept to a minimum. Our students come from so many difficult situations at home that it is our hope that school can be their one safe haven.
