One in five students struggle in reading and often have dyslexia. While students in a Title One school sometimes struggle to achieve success on the best of terms, students with a disability like dyslexia will fall even further behind without intensive intervention. Success comes quickly to students who have dyslexia, especially when students can use a Chromebooks to type their assignments, work intensively on their phonics and decoding skills with workbooks and index cards, and utilize small group, out of school tutoring to help them close the achievement gap. Something so simple as tutoring or a computer, may seem out of reach to a financially strapped family and yet, these kids deserve a chance to find out what real success feels like and grow as a learner.
