Sometimes, we as educators expect that if we simply show students a completed product, they will be able to get their on their own. We forgot that one of our roles as teachers is to help students engage in a meta-cognitive process that will help them become better readers and writers. Talking through what I am thinking as I read and write for my students as I work is often the key between mediocre and excellent student work because it helps them not only understand what I did, but also HOW I did it. A high-quality document camera will go a long way to help my students develop strong mental strategies. A document camera will allow my students to see into the text as I read aloud and search for context clues to solve problems, to watch me engage in the writing process as I work in my reading journal, and will allow successful students to share their work with their peers. This document camera will help my students go from being good readers to great readers! Thank you for helping them get there.
