These games will provide opportunities for students to feel significant and have fun at school. Games promote social skills, problem solving, math and literacy skills, and positive interactions. The students I work with need to develop these skills, but they will also benefit from having some extra positive experiences at school through playing games. The games that are part of this project were chosen for their educational value and their appeal to elementary age children. I chose a variety for them to have as options such as Appletters which helps develop spelling skills, Hoot Owl Hoot which promotes cooperation, and Gravity Maze which encourages problem-solving and persistence. Select students will have the opportunity to play games in my room two or three mornings a week during the time that they normally have to wait in the hall until the bell rings. This will allow students to have a successful transition to school day. Also, different students will be invited to eat lunch with me one or two times a week and they will get to choose a game to play with friends after they finish eating. Finally, students who really find it challenging to stay on task and engage in the work we do in small group literacy intervention, will have the opportunity to come to my room on Friday afternoons before dismissal to play games. They will also be able to invite a friend.
