My students are referred to as those who need Special Education services and they have a variety of areas where they need support in the academic setting. The definition of special is: "distinguished by some unusual quality". My student's unique and extraordinary qualities are what make them special to me. Each has something special to share with classmates, teachers and our school community. Their speech and language disorders are diverse and include: reduced ability to communicate due to lack of vocabulary and short sentence length, inability to produce speech sounds correctly, stuttered speech, physical challenges that impact speech and language production and language impacted by autism spectrum disorders. Our school is an environment that embraces this diversity. It is a safe and supportive place where students are allowed to grow at the pace that works for them and where progress is celebrated no matter the amount. It is a privilege to share each school day with my students!
