In a high school Visual Arts class, much time is dedicated to creative experimentation and idea generation. This can take the form of sketching or planning a composition for a final drawing or painting assignment, or visual note-taking, or mind-mapping. A sketchbook, often used as a visual journal, is used as the starting point for all these exercises. Many art students purchase sketchbooks to use in class, but many cannot afford one and end up using an old notebook or half-filled sketchbook (these containers can't hold up to the amount of required use) and some just don't keep a sketchbook at all. I hope to provide each of my students with a new, good-quality sketchbook that will hold up to consistent use and allow them to take pride in their work. The sketchbook I've selected is inexpensive, yet of the good quality needed for the drawing, collage, and inking done in the initial practice and experimentation that will take place on its pages.
