My school is Title 1 K-5 in a large suburban district. 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. In addition to poverty, many students come from single parent homes, foster care, or are being raised by grandparents. Our caring staff is working hard to make sure that students come to school feeling welcomed and excited to be there. They have many opportunities for extra activities such as basketball, track, choir, band, orchestra, chess club, and art club. 5th graders have a chance to be in band and orchestra during the school day, but they have to rent or buy an instrument.
