Building strong academic skills in their native language. - It will definitely make a difference for the students. Reading in their native language will allow them to progress in their academics and will lower their frustration and anxiety when trying to read 4th Grade level books in English. It will open communication and opportunity for new conversations. For instance, regular 4th Graders at Nash Elementary are reading "Double Fudge" or "James and the Giant Peach" in English, if the bilingual class is reading the same book in Spanish at the same time, it will open a window of opportunity for starting a conversation with other students outside the bilingual classroom .
