I teach in a Title One school where many of my students struggle academically. My school is made up of about 85.7% socioeconomically disadvantaged students. 75% of our students are identified as English Language Learners. Second grade is a crucial year for all students to be fluent in their reading. It's the year where struggling readers will strive to become fluent. To better prepare my students for the jump to third grade, I will try to teach my students many strategies to help them read fluently.
