As we approach in-person learning within our Kindergarten classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are many aspects a teacher needs to consider to provide a safe, socially distanced, and engaging classroom. Wearing a face covering is mandatory for everyone in the classroom and this provides a lot of muffled speech when I am trying to teach letter sounds, phonics, and other key features in reading, writing, and math. Students with and without hearing impairments have a hard time hearing me clearly. Plus, children speaking with a soft voice while wearing a mask are having a hard time presenting their ideas, suggestions to add to our whole group conversations. Each school year, I want to make sure that my students have the Kindergarten year they deserve! Because of the pandemic, all students must stay in close proximity to their seats during a whole group lesson. This means that students are socially distanced and spread throughout the room. This prohibits students from hearing clear and precise directions and many children are missing out on some key story elements during very fun and engaging stories that are being read! There is a strong possibility that students are going to be quarantined at home. Children will also be able to join the classroom virtually through live video sessions and they will be able to hear clear teaching lessons and enjoy stories from their home too! With this sound system, I will be able to amplify my voice, the students will be able to hear clear directions, students can share their ideas with a good projection level, and the sound will project to all areas of the classroom and to those students at home. Plus, this can be used for many years to come.
