This will be my first year as a Theatre ARTS teacher at Travis Middle School. The school has not had a Theatre Arts program for many years. Whew! These students wanted and need this type of elective which is now in place. This includes classes in creative dramatics, introduction to musical theatre, technical theatre and a production based musical theatre classes Most of what I teach, I must create myself for the students. I work in Irving, TX and serve a diverse, multicultural and mixed socioeconomic area. I am looking forward to creating beautiful Drama/Theatre program for these students which more than half are below the poverty line. In other words, creating curriculum plus teaching plus directing productions and giving a safe creative space is something that will be a challenge, but a worthwhile, memorable experience for these students, including students with mental, physical and learning difficulties.
