My students come from a low economic background. Most of their parents work in the fields and some have very limited education. My students are English learners, but despite the language barrier, they try their best to be successful in the classroom. They all have dreams of becoming police officers, doctors, and teachers. My school is located in rural California, where violence is very common. The community where the students live is impoverished and one out of seven students is homeless.
