My students have a class set of iPads that were generously donated though DonorsChoose. However, the computer that I am using limits how we use the iPads in class. My vision is to build a paperless classroom. I want students to be able to access their notes and worksheets from any computer, whether at home or at a public library. Creating a digital classroom takes some serious computing power. I need more space on my computer for students short term files and documents as well as my own and I need to be able to run programs that help me manage my students work and progress on the iPads. This new computer will also allow me to begin building a resource of digital notes for students to access through our class website. I also need a computer that has the ability to update the iPads with new apps on a regular basis. As I discover new and interesting apps pertaining to mathematics, I want to be able to change the iPads accordingly. This project will help undeserved students in NYC not only study mathematics but learn how to use technology to stay organized. As we begin to move towards a paperless classroom students will be responsible for saving and submitting assignments online. This will give me the opportunity to asses my students progress at any time. It would be beyond helpful to look through students notes and ideas continuously and be able to share even the smallest of private discoveries with the class.
