Adults don't sit at their desks all day so students shouldn't be expected to either. As a teacher, I know the importance of giving students the opportunity to move. Research consistently shows powerful links between physical activity and academic performance. This includes improved grades and standardized test scores as well as student focus. Everyone feels empowered when given the opportunity to make a choice and students are no different! Flexible seating helps students become more self-aware of what types of seating helps them learn best. They are then allowed to make the choice about where to sit to best meet their needs. This project will allow me to be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs. Having a student-centered classroom will not only improve student academic success but their confidence as well.
