I teach English as a second language to K-1 students in a small city within Detroit, Michigan. Most of the students I teach come from poverty areas of Bangladesh and Yemen. Many left their countries to avoid military conflicts. Many do not know how to speak, write, or read English. Their parents want a better life for their children and with that, comes a better education. Our school is in an old Catholic school building and we are bursting at the seams with students. I teach 5-7 children at a time at a table at the bottom landing of the middle school stairwell in our building. I have no where to install a white board or ELMO projector. With today's technology, I would love to be able to use these tablets to enhance my students' learning, especially those students who have just arrived to the United States and speak little or no English.
