I have yet to meet my new students but looking at demographics and data I can tell they are economically disadvantaged. As an educator I want to provide them with opportunities to grow and give them world experience, even if it is virtually. Many of these students have parents that work in the service industry so they do not get time to go on vacations much less travel the world. For these students to succeed in a global community they need to understand and respect cultures from around the globe. I also will have a portion of students from military families that may have the knowledge of other countries but need to learn a broader perspective to truly understand the reasons why mom or dad have to travel overseas. I want to give these students a worldview to help them succeed in the future.
