In light of a turbulent election year, my students developed a genuine interest in American politics. In the days leading up to Donald Trump's inauguration, they arrived to school with anxiety-ridden questions—often worried about the potential impact on their family's lives. In an effort to ease their concerns and empower them through knowledge, I assigned a research report to dissect the three branches of government and a biography of presidential history. However, due to limited access of working computers, we have not been able to complete this project in a timely manner. If our students are awarded classroom-based laptops, they'll be able to research a variety of topics in a timely manner, which will increase their ability to learn through technology.
