My classroom is filled with students who love reading, struggle with reading and students who are still finding their passion for reading. I want to grow their love for reading and help them do this by providing them an environment that supports them in their journey. My students are for an urban area where they have to walk pretty far to access a public library and therefore love being able to pick out a good book from my classroom library. My school is a charter school, that was once a Philadelphia Public School. Through Response to Intervention my school has had the largest growth in reading in our charter network and we know we will continue to be #1! I have 25 out of 60 students reading on grade level or higher. 35 of my students are reading anywhere from a year to 3 years below their grade level. Many of my students not only have academic needs, but also social needs. It is my goal to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for them.
