Goals! How would we ever succeed in life without them? On the second day of school, I got to meet all ninety of my students and learned about their reading interests. Unfortunately, many of them confessed that they did not love reading. At the end of the day, I sat at my desk feeling defeated. How can I possibly get my students excited for reading? It became my new goal! By the end of the year, I WILL find the book that makes my students fall in love with reading, or at the very least, inspired to read more! Like Auggie, the main character in the novel, my students are truly a wonder! Most of them are eager to learn, despite challenges they face on an every day basis, including not reading on a fifth grade level. Furthermore, most students in my school qualify for free or reduced lunches, making it difficult for parents to purchase books for their children.
