My students are middle school aged and in a self-contained program for children with intellectual disabilities and Autism I love teaching my students to be independent and to follow their dreams. In my classroom we focus on ABILITY and individual student needs. Students attend a regular middle school and are currently working on a modified curriculum, but have very little access to grade level texts. Any grade level text is modified and adapted for students by the teacher. Part of the curriculum for my class involves community based instruction where students get to practice real life skills such as grocery shopping , ordering from a menu, or accessing public recreational facilities. My students also participate in Special Olympics each year at the local and state level.
