My students are hungry for knowledge and recognition in their accomplishments. Many of them come from challenging backgrounds which can make "traditional" learning difficult and ineffective. I aim to incorporate creativity, color and imagination in my classroom as a support for the many standards taught. We are a Title I school with a large percentage of the population eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students do not have access to school supplies needed to complete even basic tasks. Though I have volunteers who are generous, every year I end up running out of basic supplies to keep the hands-on projects that my students thrive on going.
