My students are fourth graders in an urban district that is considered high poverty. Our school is located in a neighborhood, which provides them with a strong sense of community. We have a large Cape Verdean population that adds an entirely different culture to our school. Our neighborhood kids and our staff learn a lot about culture and diversity from our students. I feel fortunate to be part of a school system as large and diverse as mine.
