Last year was my first year as a teacher. One thing I noticed was that many of my students had a hard time sitting and concentrating all day long on the hard desks and chairs that the school provides. I have students who suffer with attention deficit disorders, are easily distracted or fidgety, or are simply creative thinkers who need their own special space to help them perform to the best of their ability. Many of them worked harder and longer when I allowed them to sit on the floor, or in special little lawn chairs that I have in my classroom. This revelation sparked my interest in researching alternative seating options. decided that allowing my students the freedom to choose the seating option that they learn best in was something I wanted to pursue. Assistance from DonorsChoose would help me to further meet their needs by providing them with wobble chairs, a group meeting rug, and dry erase boards, that they could use while sitting in these new spaces. It's only a start, but I can't wait to see the excitement on their faces when they see these new changes to their classroom next year!
