I teach in an extremely high poverty school in South Carolina. 96% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is about 65% Hispanic. ESL learners who speak very little to no English make up over half of my class. I adore each and every child in my room and I try very hard to accommodate all of their needs. I know some of these little ones have faced hardships that I could not even imagine. However, they enter the classroom each day with smiles on their faces and an enthusiasm to learn new things. In return, my goal each day is to create a community of learners who feel safe in a nurturing environment where they can reach their full potential. This means that not only is school a fun place to learn, it is a safe place to be. I have met some of the sweetest, most endearing children while teaching at this school. They are all very lovable, energetic, and active with an inspiring passion for learning.
