My job as a speech language pathologist is to help my students communicate at school so that they can express their wants and needs, ask and answer questions, participate in discussion, comment about what they see, socialize with friends, etc. Often, when my students have difficulty using speech, they are able to use technology very effectively to assist with their communication. An iPad has a variety of apps that can be downloaded and used as tools for communication and language learning. These include picture communication systems, speech output apps, articulation/phonology apps, and a plethora of other language activities that will enable my students to better communicate and learn language. Many of my students are drawn to technology because it makes language more visible by using pictures and videos and thus helps them learn new words and phrases. I will use this iPad with my students during small group speech and language sessions and in my students' classroom settings as a communication and language learning tool. Your generous donation will help many special education students become stronger communicators!
