My students come into Kindergarten very eager to learn but many of them have not attended any type of pre-k school. They have have been at home and school is a new experience and concept for them. As a school, we strive to meet the needs of each child and design our instruction to meet all learning styles. So at the beginning of the year, my instruction looks very different from a typical Kindergarten class because we are learning many basic skills that they need in order to be ready to learn. My school is very diverse and many of the students come from government housing or low income housing. We live in an area that is transient and we are welcoming new students into our classroom families and saying goodbye all in the same week. That being said, we also have very dedicated parents that want their children to excel in school and work hard to support their child's learning at home.
