I teach a second-grade class full of wonderful, strong, and big-hearted students. My students' home lives are difficult. They often rely on school for their only meal. I work at a school in the middle of a low-income neighborhood. Students are exposed to drugs and alcohol. They look to their teachers for love. Parent involvement is minimal. The staff at my school have big hearts. It is often difficult to provide our students with all the things they need. Our students often struggle with academics and have limited resources. Students want to succeed and love learning. School is where they feel safe and happy.
